A thank you to all those who made it down to watch the 1st XV against Strathclyde on Wednesday. Unfortunately the GURFC were on the wrong end of a 20-13 final score. After an attritional first half, Glasgow trailed 3-0, but soon took the lead through a Jack Sommerville try, duly converted by Kyle Henderson. With the game finely poised at 7-3, the referee decided not to award what would have been one of the best tries of recent seasons, citing a forward pass in the build up. Within minutes, Strathclyde took advantage of a Glasgow injury and used their extra man to score a converted try in the corner and regain the lead. Glasgow failed to make sustained pressure count and after a breakaway try, conversion and a further penalty, trailed by 20-10 with 10 minutes remaining. Henderson slotted a penalty with 5 minutes to go to ignite a late charge, but a knock-on in the midfield signalled an end to proceedings and a win for Strathclyde. It was an intensely fought contest which could have went either way and the 1st XV will target more clinical finishing as a key area to improve upon ahead of an away trip to Edinburgh on Wednesday.
