Match Report – G.U.R.F.C. 2nd XV 43 – 8 Dundee 3rd XV (Conference Cup, 15-10-14)
In a repeat of last week, Glasgow started very slowly against Dundee. Considering that Dundee 2nd XV had been dispatched comfortably last week, a scoreline of 8-7 down at the break was far from ideal. Glasgow indiscipline allowed Dundee to lead, and Theo Nwosu-Hope’s try flattered the scoreline at the half. However straight out of the blocks, the second half was a complete turnaround. Glasgow dominated every aspect of the game, and the floodgates opened. 5 minutes into the second half. After a 55 metre break from Michael Finlayson, Jay Brownrigg crashed over and converted his own try to give Glasgow a 14-8 lead. Jerome Knowles quickly increased the advantage after hitting a huge angle to dot down on the line. Substitute Donal McEvoy scored a quick brace to all but secure the win, and Matthew Hamilton added the finishing touches with a brilliant solo effort. Another fantastic second half performance from the 2nd XV and a very pleasing result for last seasons finalists.
