Match Report, Development 10’s (18-2-15)
The Glasgow 3rd and Development XV’s, travelled to Hillhead Rugby Club for the Strathclyde 10’s.
In their group were Glasgow School of Art and Glasgow Caledonian. The match against GSA was a close fought encounter, the boys losing to a last minute try. The Caley game got off to the worst possible start, 14-0 down after a minute, but some dogged defence and driving attack lead to a Calum Cameron break up the pitch ending in a try. Hard work was not rewarded however it finished 19-12 to Caledonian.
The boys then played the subsidiary tournament against our Development squad and Strathclyde. The 3rd XV deservedly dominated the all GU encounter, with champagne rugby all round and a Murray Kemp wonder-try giving a 6 tries to 0 final score. Their final game was a tight one against arch-rivals Strathclyde. After the break weariness began to show, and despite a well-read chip into the corner by Matty McConnell, collected by Daniel Moore for the try, Strathclyde ran away with it to win 19-5.
This has put new heart into the 3rd XV who will now look to capitalise on their new found optimism going into some key away games against St. Andrews and Dundee in the hope of securing promotion to 4A.
The Development squad unfortunately didn’t record a win, due to some cobwebs from the recent lack of pitch-time, but put in some spirited performances against the well-drilled sides on the day.
Big thanks to Hillhead Rugby Club and Strathclyde for hosting.
