Match Report – 3rd XV 7 – 12 Heriot-Watt 1st XV (Sports Academy, 3-12-14)
The 3rd XV traveled to Edinburgh to take on Heriot-Watt 1st XV in the final game of the group stages of the Conference Cup. Both defences held out strongly and provided little opportunity for either team to score any tries in the opening stages. Heriot-Watt missed two difficult penalties in the closingstages of the first half whilst Glasgow had Duncan Murray-Uren yellow carded for a high tackle. The second half started how the first half ended with little to separate the two sides. However it was Heriot-Watt who broke the deadlock after a strong maul provided a platform for the backs to score. Minutes later, missed tackles by Glasgow allowed the home side to score their second try of the game leaving the score 12-0. However, Glasgow responded through a try of their own after good work from the forwards allowing Kyle Henderson to cross the line for a converted try. Further pressure from Glasgow in the dying moments of the game went unrewarded and the final score finished 12-7 to Heriot-Watt. A fantastic effort from our 3rd XV who pushed the team at the top of 2A, three leagues above them, all the way.
