Match Report – 3rd XV 15 – 5 Strathclyde 3rd XV (22-10-14)
After a 22-22 draw with Strathclyde’s 2nd XV in the Cup last week, the 3rd XV went into the game with a lot of confidence. A miserable day at Stepps did not make for thrilling rugby, but an excellent workman-like performance from Glasgow’s pack allowed the backs to play to the weather, keeping it tight with the wind and kicking the corners without it. Glasgow took the lead midway through the first half, Jamie Patterson crossing after some sharp hands through the backline. Strathclyde responded soon after, grabbing a breakaway after some sustained Glasgow pressure. After the break, Glasgow had the wind and began to turn the screw. Captain and stand-off Kyle Henderson dictated the game with the boot, pinning Strathclyde to the corners. After some great work from Iain Currie out wide, Matty McConnell got on the end of a nudge through to extend Glasgow’s lead, and Kyle Henderson made the game safe with a penalty with ten minutes on the clock. A composed performance from the 3rd XV who remain unbeaten this season, and now have a rest week. Notable performances from Man of the Match Calum Holland, captain Kyle Henderson and returning talisman Iain Slessor.
