Match Report – 2nd XV 47 – 0 Heriot-Watt 2nd XV (Garscube, 26-11-14)
After a scrappy match in Edinburgh last week, the 2nd XV came out this week determined to up their game. They got off to the perfect start, with Jack Connor smashing through the middle to dot down under the posts. Following in the kicking footsteps of Knaggs’ of yore, prop Paddy Knaggs added the extras. It wasn’t long before Matthew Hamilton scampered free on the left wing and ran it home. Knaggs added the extras for an early 14-0 lead. After an excellent turnover on the deck, the ball went wide to David Wallace who broke through to give Glasgow a 19-0 lead after barely 20 minutes. A quick second from Wallace and a third conversion from Knaggs made it 26-0 and the Glasgow were running away with it. Jack Connor scored his second and Knaggs converted again to put Glasgow 33-0 up after half an hour. Dave Wallace won the race to the hat-trick, racing in from 80m for his 3rd inside 35 minutes and Knaggs converted to give Glasgow a handsome 40-0 lead at the break. Heriot-Watt rallied after half-time, and began to play the way they showed they were capable of last week. The game slowed down, and territory shifted to either side of the halfway line. After 6 well-worked phases, replacement stand-off Tom Marsh saw the space and put the crossfield kick on a plate for Jack Connor who saw off the fullback for his hat-trick. Knaggs added the extras for a 47-0 win after an early whistle. A dominant performance from the 2nd XV, who climb to 3rd in the table with a game in hand over Dundee 2nd XV. A long break until the 4th of February, when they take on St. Andrews 2nd XV away.
