Match Report – 2nd XV 14 – 13 Heriot-Watt University Rugby Club 2nd XV (Sports Academy,19-11-14)
November 21st, 2014
Wednesday was a cold and wet day in Edinburgh for the final pool game in the Conference Cup. In classic 2nd XV style, a poor start and missed tackles saw Heriot-Watt cross within 30 seconds for a 5-0 lead. However, this only served as a wakeup call, and after a brilliant maul from the pack Steven Moyes touched down. Captain Kyle Henderson added the extras for a 2 point Glasgow lead. Discipline from both sides started to slip, but Glasgow gave a quick string of penalties away, bringing Heriot-Watt into our 22. After sustained pressure on our line they settled for a penalty, taking the score to 8-7. Just before the half ended Jerome Knowles made a break and after some excellent offloading, Henderson found David Niven who was able to run it in from the 22. Again Henderson added the 2, taking the score to 14-8 at half time. The second half started and it was a much slower affair, basic errors killing all momentum. After pressure on our line, Heriot-Watt found a gap on the blindside for their flanker to flop over in he corner. Fortunately the conversion was missed, allowing us to hold on to our slender lead. Final score 14-13 to Glasgow in a scrappy game but a win in the Cup.
