Match Report – 1st XV vs. Dundee University 1XV 1-10-14
Our 1st XV made a promising start to the season despite a 17-7 loss to Dundee on Wednesday. Dundee scored very early on, forcing their way over after a scrappy attacking lineout. After some sustained Glasgow possession, Dundee turned a scrum over and broke away to score their second in the corner, fifteen minutes into the game. Glasgow rallied and dominated the remainder of the half, however we reached half time with no points on the board. Glasgow started the second half the way they finished the first, heaping pressure on Dundee who held firm. Following some handbags at the bottom of a ruck, a dangerous spear tackle from one of Dundee’s back row saw him rightfully red-carded, and Glasgow went straight back on the attack and piled on the pressure, but a quick Dundee break saw them go 17-0 up. Glasgow bounced back, and after yet more sustained pressure Richard Murdoch barreled over and Jordan Carlisle added the extras. Despite Glasgow pushing hard, Dundee’s defense held and the game finished 17-7. A very solid performance against a Dundee side who took their chances, and on another day things could have gone differently.
