Match Report – 1st XV 12 – 9 Aberdeen Uni 1st XV (Garscube, 19-11-14)
We are pleased to report a first league win this season against the team at the top of the table. Glasgow started well and made early dominance count. Scrum-half Angus Hardy reacted quickest to a penalty with a quick tap and grabbed the first try. Glasgow continued to dominate the set piece but could not manage any more points in the first half. Much of the second half was played in Glasgow’s 10 and Aberdeen scored three well-taken penalties to lead 9-7. With 10 minutes left, Glasgow had an opportunity to take the lead through a penalty but were not able to convert. With time running out Glasgow won a penalty from a scrum and kicked to the corner. A knock on from Aberdeen gave Glasgow one last chance. The ball was retained by the forwards with some good pick and goes to gain momentum before releasing to the backs. John Rae was able to break the line once again for his most important try thus far. With a first league win under our belt, we can begin to relax and enjoy our games more now as we look to push on and finish strongly. This Wednesday is Manchester 1’s away in the BUCS cup.
