Glasgow University 1st XV 5 – 18 Strathclyde 1st XV
On a pitch that was wet under foot, the game took a while to get going. With not a lot in it, Strathclyde took the early points through two long-range penalties. There was a couple of times where one more pass would have lead to strong scoring opportunities for Glasgow but Strathclyde managed to close the space well. Both teams struggled to string many good phases together but Strathclyde got a try before the end of the first half to lead 13-0 at half time. Glasgow took more of a hold on the game and momentum began to swing in Glasgow’s favour. After some time in the Strath half, John Rae broke through a tackle and was under the posts to make it 13-5 to the visitors. Glasgow continued the pressure for a period before Strathclyde were able to kill the game with a try at the end to make it 18-5. Another disappointing result for the team. We will have another shot at Strathclyde in the Glasgow Cup next term but for now focus turns to Aberdeen next week at home.
