1st XV Match Report-Wednesday 07/10/2015 vs Edinburgh (a)
The first half was a close affair with Glasgow putting Edinburgh’s back three under sustained pressure in the wet conditions. The scoring was opened with a penalty from Kyle Henderson, though an Edinburgh penalty swiftly restored parity at 3 – 3. With Edinburgh enjoying the majority of possession, a strong defensive effort from Glasgow kept the score line tied going in to the second-half.
Soon into the second period, Edinburgh made a break down the touchline only to be denied in the corner. Play was brought back to the Glasgow 22m by the referee and a penalty given against Jack Connor for an illegal tackle, which was deemed a yellow card offence. Edinburgh took it quickly and were held up just short of the Glasgow line once again. A second yellow card for a professional foul saw Sam Bullock also sent to the bin. A gutsy defensive effort and controlled play from the 13 man Glasgow team ensured keeping Edinburgh at bay for the next ten minutes, until they capitalised on a stray kick and scored an unconverted try. Soon after, Edinburgh increased the lead with a drop goal making it 11 – 3. Unfortunately, with the last play of the game Edinburgh broke down the sideline from a scrum to score between the sticks. Final score 18 – 3.
The score did not reflect the closely fought nature of the match and similar to last week, the game was lost by very fine margins. Glasgow will take heart from this and look to be more clinical in the remaining games of the season.
